What is the history of the Medomak property?

Medomak Camp Retreat Center has been in operation since 2004, reopening the Senior Camp doors exactly 100 years after Frank Poland began Medomak Camp for Boys. For over 90 years, Medomak was a summer respite for boys and eventually girls. Former Medomak camper Holly Stone purchased the camp property in 1994 and began Medomak Camp for Families. Ten years later, 100 years after the inception of Medomak Camp, the Medomak team opened the Retreat Center. Our property is an expansive 300+ acres of pristine wilderness and it is our intention to protect and steward this land far into the future.

What type of amenities do you have?

Washington Pond is the #1 camp amenity. We offer access to kayaks, canoes, and stand-up paddle boards at no additional cost as well as a large sunny dock with chairs. Our dining hall is open 24/7 with access to refrigerator, freezer, coffee, tea, and microwave. WiFi is available in common areas. Our lovely porch is home to a dozen study rocking chairs.

Are you open year-round?

Our current season runs from mid-June to mid-September.

How do I get there?

If you’re flying, the closest airport is in Portland Maine (PWM) 80 minutes away. Other options are Boston or Manchester New Hampshire both are just a 3-hour drive from Medomak. Medomak does not offer car service so a car rental is necessary. If you are driving we are 30 minutes from Augusta & Camden, 3 hours from Boston and 7 hours from NYC.

Are the cabins on the lake?

Although our cabins do not have a lake view, a short 3-5 minute walk down the hill from the cabins takes you to our private lakefront access.

What are your cabins like?

Our cabins are comfortable & rustic and can accommodate 2-3 people. Each cabin is equipped with a toilet, 1-2 sinks, and a shower. Constructed with fragrant pine wood, the simplicity of our lodging highlights the beauty of the nature outside your cabin door.

How far is Medomak from the ocean?

Medomak is a short 30-minute drive to more than five port towns.

What is there to do locally?

What are your meals like?

We pride ourselves on serving homemade, fresh, and well-rounded meals at Medomak. Meals are served family style, 3 times daily with desserts at lunch and dinner. We offer a weekly Lobster Feast at a per person market rate.
Our lobsters are sourced from Sadie Samuels at Must Be Nice Lobster Co in Rockport, Maine. Additional seafood from Jess’s Market in Rockland, Maine. All salad greens and additional herbs and vegetables come from Dharma Farms located 3.7 miles from camp. We are proud to work with Dennis Food Services, a Maine based employee-owned company sourcing directly from small Maine businesses.
 

Can you accommodate special diets?

We provide well-balanced, varied meals. With notice, we can accommodate vegetarian/vegan diets. All meals have essential components that are gluten-free, but folks with celiac disease may be concerned that our kitchens cannot account for cross-contamination. Folks that prefer to eat gluten-free (or other special diets) may wish to bring along personal items to supplement their preferences.
 

Do participants have access to refrigeration for medications, special foods…?

Yes, a common refrigerator is located in the dining hall for participants to refrigerate necessities.
 

What is your alcohol policy at Medomak?

We do allow retreat participants to bring their own alcohol to camp to be consumed responsibly: For safety reasons, we also ask that you refrain from consuming alcohol when boating and swimming. To put it plainly, alcohol & water activities don’t mix.

What is your smoking policy at Medomak?

Smoking (including pipes, cigars, and cannabis) is ONLY allowed in a designated area. For the enjoyment of other campers as well as their safety (think FIRE HAZARD), we ask that you respect this policy.
 

Does tuition cover everything at the Retreat Center?

Tuition covers lodging, food and activities. We do not charge a rental fee for our boats or equipment. The only additional costs at Medomak are for items purchased at our camp store. Individual programs may have fees associated.

What time is check-in and check-out?

Generally, check in is 3 pm the day your program begins and check out is 10:30 am on the day your retreat ende.

Does the camp provide linens and towels?

Yes, participants are provided a set of linens (sheets, pillow, blanket and towel set) for the week. Please note they are not changed out during the week.
 

Are there laundry facilities at camp?

We do not have laundry facility on the Retreat Center site.
 

Are children welcome to attend?

While each program differs, generally our programs are for campers over the age of 18. Please call if you have extenuating circumstances.

Are we allowed to bring pets?

Unless your pet is certified as a working dog and has all applicable paperwork, we do not, under any circumstance, allow participants to bring pets.
